Celebrating Wool Week – A Stylish New Era for Aussie Wool

CalmlyKaotic - WoolWeek

With Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia done and dusted for another year, and the coldest months of the year only a mere week away I’m now firmly focused on high-winter fashion, and particularly the emergence of a stylish new era for wool as we celebrate #WoolWeek.

Last year I worked with one of my fav contemporary Australian labels Metalicus for Wool Week, celebrating beautiful fashion-forward looks using innovative Wool blends. This year I’ve partnered with them again to feature one of the key looks trending on the MBFWA runways; leg-layering – Dresses over pants & skirts over dresses (and that post is also coming soon), but in the mean time let’s talk woolen knits.

There’s nothing better than a cosy sweater, and there’s some amazing styles and colours hitting the shelves in time for when the clock strikes Winter. Recently I found my self in Country Road and fell madly in love with a number of their new season knits, and while checking the tags for their composition I was thrilled to see the Woolmark logo on many of the racks. Woolmark is the global authority on Wool, working with and on-behalf of over 55,000 Aussie wool growers producing the highest quality wool to the global marketplace. It’s so good to see so many retailers using innovative blends and supporting Aussie Wool.

For this reason I can’t talk about Wool Week without mentioning the stunningly beautiful shoot by Westfield in collaboration with WoolMark to promote Aussie Merino wool, shot on location at Anlaby Station in South Australia, with fourth generation wool growers modelling new season fashions (Check it out here). All.of.the.praise to farmers producing Australian Wool, and the designers who use it.

It’s no surprise then that for this blog post I’ve taken inspo from Westfield’s campaign and worked with South Coast photographer Anthony Langlois to capture my own take on WoolWeek and how I’ll be styling warm knits this winter, in support of Australian wool producers and this beautiful, natural & renewable fibre.

For this shoot I’ve styled my new knit with linen culottes from Sheike, but you’ll also find me wearing this neutral knit with jeans, and skirts, boots and mules, and… well, practically anything because it is amazing.

Also, as an added bonus, if you’re in the market for a new Wooly number to add to the wardrobe, purchase any Woolen item from Country Road & head to countryroad.com.au/wool for a chance to WIN a long weekend escape to Tasmania for 2 + a $1000 CR Shopping experience. Entries close May 28.

Finally, if you’re like me and find yourself standing in the laundry hopelessly staring at the machine and wondering how best to maintain your beloved garments check out these handy tips from the Westfield blog for How to Care for Wool (did you know leaving wool garments to rest for 24 hours before wearing them again lets the wool recover and return to its original shape?), and also a must read for messy peeps like me – How to remove stubborn stains from wool.

Happy Winter, Happy Wool Week & Keep Warm!
