Now that the dust glitter has settled on another cracking Fashion Week I’m taking a moment to look back at my fav moments and all the looks & trends that will be finding their way directly to my wardrobe (or wish list) from the MBFWA Resort ’18 collections.
As a quick summary on the whole Resort thing; last year saw a strategic repositioning of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia to make it the first centralised event focused exclusively on Resort collections, placing it at the beginning of the global sales window. As explained by Vogue these “pre-collections” act as a precursor to the traditional Spring/Summer collections that are shown during the September fashion weeks held in New York, London, Milan and Paris. Last year’s MBFWA event saw a 75% uplift in international buyer attendance, and hence injected new life and excitement into the 2017 event which saw more than 40 established & emerging designers show their collections from May 14-19.
This year I was grateful to be invited to a number of shows, and felt pretty spesh sitting front row at a select few. Below is my MBFWA highlight reel – keeping it short & sweet by sharing my fav few looks from each of the runways I attended.
Looks & Trends from MBFWA Resort ’18
This year saw a reemergence of colour, with sheer everything and an abundance of ruffles. It took me a while to get the confidence to go sheer but I’ve officially fallen for it and glad to see it being taken to new heights for the next season. There were sequins aplenty and feminine lines with high-waisted accents that made me want to put my hands to the sky (*praise). It’s always been all about the high waist for me, so I couldn’t be happier to see less androgyny on the runway in preference of shapely silhouettes; dayum girl.

Project NextGen
The NextGen showcase was NextLEVEL this year. The stand out was Stanzee, with Isabelle Quinn, Sarah Hope Schofield, and Victoria Bliss all bringing the goods.

Swim Showcase
Swim is always a fav showcase of mine. Kopper & Zink took gold for me, with Skye & Staghorn, Tacoola and Duskii also bringin’ those high-wasted styles.
Innovators
This year’s Innovators was incredible – take note that the cover photo for this blog post comes from show-stopper Casea, I loved the colour and pattern clashes from this runway & it was the standout of the week for me in terms of wow factor. Other features here are from A.N.X, EWOL & Richard Giang.

Raffles
So much contrast on the Raffles runway this year, which is so great. From edgy denim to flowing frills and flares I loved everything from Enve, while Nara, Occupants, WhatEv, and Ashleigh Kwong all showed off looks that could easily translate straight into my wardrobe.
VMajor
So that’s a wrap. Big thanks to IMG & all of the designers who invited me along to share in the success of MBFWA Resort ’18. I loved every moment of the event this year, I felt a lot more at relaxed and at home with my #Squad & so many familiar faces from the Aussie blogging industry creating a whirlwind of fun.
Images care of MBFWA, although images on my instagram were all my own.
Until next time!
