A Mother’s Day Gift Guide

If you’re like me and leave gift giving until the last minute, thinking you’ve got it covered only to find yourself scrambling at the eleventh hour to think of the perfect gift, look no further because I’ve put together a Mothers Day Gift Guide to solve allllll of your problems.

The Card: Cards for Darlings

It’s so hard to find beautiful cards these days with the whole Hallmark monopoly, in fact that was the very catalyst for me creating my own stationary label two years ago! So, when I find cards that are gorgeous I love to support independent designers and spread the word! Cards for Darlings make one of a kind custom cards and let me tell you, THAT level of spesh is very hard to come by. In a world that’s so rushed and especially after last year’s string of bad health within my family I’m really passionate about taking those small moments in life to say all the things you really what you want to say to your loved ones, after all it’s the words not the things that mean the most to them. You must check out the beautiful range, for all occasions!

The Handbag

Let me speak for one moment about my mum – she is one of a kind, beautiful, generous, loving, supportive, and NEVER spends money on herself! She loves shopping as a pastime when it involves spending a day wandering stores with me and my sister but she hates the actual act of shopping for herself. This being the case I love to give her gifts that add a little somethin’ to her wardrobe and things she can mix and match with her staples. A new leather handbag is something that she desperately needs this year and here’s a few that I’m eyeing off for her!

Nikki Williams • I was lucky enough to add a Nikki Williams Clutch to my wardrobe recently and have fallen for the brand, with classic style and modern edge I know my mumma’s eyes would light up at the sight of this beautifully crafted ‘Hampton’ Beige + Navy leather tote.

Sportscraft • This is the other baby I’m eyeing off as I’m also conscious of my Mum being increasingly sick of having a bag that’s cumulatively full of, well, crap (we all know the story… “I’ll just throw this receipt in here for now”… nek minute you’ve gone to shopper docket hell and feel like you’re searching for the meaning of life every time you need to grab your phone). This is just a perfect size, effortlessly chic in sand + tan leather and cross body for comfort, convenience and style… who wouldn’t love it.

Jag • Another cross body – simple, stylish, classic black, beautiful leather, $99.95 + a free scarf for Mother’s Day? Sold, Jag.

The Difference

Late last year my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. Early this year my Aunt – Mum’s sister – was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer. According to the Cancer Council every day in Australia, around 50 women are told they have breast or a gynaecological cancer. I thank god that in both cases my Mum and Aunt’s cancers were detected early and the outlook is GOOD. Understandably, this gift idea is close to my heart. Whilst it’s important to spoil our Mums this Mother’s Day consider giving a gift that gives back. Pink Hope is a preventative health organisation working to ensure every individual can assess, manage and reduce their risk of cancer, while providing personalised support for at risk women. The McGrath Foundation raises money to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia, as well as increasing breast awareness in young Australian women. Pink Ribbon helps raises funds in support of the many thousands of Australian women affected by breast and gynaecological cancers. All of these, and many more, have really cool merchandise to help support the cause – including candles, lipstick, clothing, socks, even wine coolers! or why not hold a girls night in with all the wonderful women in your life, enjoy each other’s company and raise money for a worthwhile cause!

The Indulgence

If your mum is anything like my mum, the thing she loves most in the world is not material – it’s time, time spent with ‘the kids’. Book a restaurant – either the family favourite, or find somewhere new with amazing reviews (I love The Urban List for finding the hottest places to dine!) – and treat her to a day out with the girls for high tea, or a night out with family for dinner, no washing up required! If you want to treat her with something particularly indulgent you must check out High Tea at The Langham!

The PJ’s

Boring choice? Not for my mum, and I bet not for yours either. I’m guilty of putting sleepwear on the bottom of my to-buy list and there’s a good reason for that – because nobody sees it! Going to bed in beautiful sleepwear is actually a luxury that few of us (especially our mothers) award ourselves. I love the department stores for browsing sleepwear, Myer and DJ’s have loads of lovely brands at all price points, but my pick of the brands for sending Mum into a blissful dream state this Mother’s Day… Ginia.

The Travellers Watch

This one’s a big left of field but does your mum travel a lot for work? or are you living overseas this Mothers Day? Check this out! This impeccably stylish Steven Alan dual timezone watch will make navigating time zones so much easier!

The Scarf

Coming into Winter there’s not an accessory more functional than a beautiful new scarf. My mum feels the cold horribly and so I feel a genuine sense of joy to know that I can give her something that keeps her cosy whilst also adding to the wardrobe! Most Women’s fashion stores have a range of scarves but I’m loving the range on offer at Country Road and with a selection on sale you might be able to spoil her with two!

Well that’s a wrap! Hope this Mother’s Day Gift Guide has helped with some brainstorming, and if you have any of your own awesome ideas please share them in the comments!
